Dead Space 2 Demo Impressions (Second Opinion) Posted by Garrett Green on Jan 3, 2011 22:10 (Jan 3, 2011 22:10) |
If you have read our other demo impression of Dead Space 2 by Nicholas Schwinger, you know that he enjoyed the demo. You would also know, that Nick has not played the original Dead Space, let alone much of this genre of games. While his preview is good, a lot of you out there are also wondering how it holds up compared to the first game. A lot of words have been thrown around, words like “more action oriented” that may have worried some of you that thought the game was going to lose its scary edge. Let me put those worries to rest. From what I have seen, Dead Space 2 is just as scary as the first one. The demo starts off with a nice little recap that reminds everyone what has happened in the last game. It’s a nice enough that even people who haven’t played the original game will know everything that’s going on. And then you gain control of Isaac in some kind of Cryo-chamber. Before anything even happens, the mood is set. All I was doing was walking through the halls and I felt the tension. Once the necromorphs did appeared I remembered why I loved the game, it’s F*****IN scary. There are a few things showcased in the demo that are new to the series. The first thing is that you see Isaac’s face more than just a hot at the end. I was able to update my armor and Isaac walks out like a badass before putting on his helmet. Even more noticeable than that is that Isaac has a voice. That’s right, our silent hero went the way of Jak from “Jak and Daxter” and received a voice. It also seems that Dead Space 2 has a bit of psychological thriller elements in it, as the game starts out by mentioning that Isaac’s mind is a little cracked. How much of this element that will be in it remains to be seen but I think it adds an extra spice of scary to the game. The Zero G movements have been tweaked to give the player full 360 control rather then having to jump from platform to platform and lastly, for as gory the deaths were in the original, the cinematic deaths here were even more gruesome. I was literally shocked by what I saw and I loved it. ![]() While really short, the demo for Dead Space 2 shows off what fans love about the series. I personally am really looking forward to this game when it comes out in a few weeks. If you loved the first game, you can be excited for this one. Let’s hope that it is as great as we all want it to be, I believe that it will be. |
