Dungeon Defenders Review Posted by Dardin Kay on Oct 29, 2011 19:19 (202 days ago) |
Dungeon Defenders is a classic type of game with elements of a Tower Defense mixed with a game that contains a decent story. Is it worth the buy? Some people do not favor Tower Defense games anymore, who can honestly blame them? Game after game, after game of different versions would drive anyone insane. However, Dungeon Defenders adds something that most TD games lack. A story. It could be annoying that you can not skip the tutorial but it is definitely needed in Dungeon Defenders. Without the tutorial, you would be at a loss for a good 20 minutes plus. The tutorial is a great way to get started in the game, tells you a story and shows you the basics of how to win each wave. The first mission starts out with five waves which is more than enough for anyone to learn the game. There is an unique option on customizing your character or hero as the game calls it. Changing the colors and class, gives players more options than usual games still to date. The game does not stop there, after the first mission you are spawned into a little shop that you can purchase new weapons and all that jazz. Some of the weapons are quite unique and are from games that are producded by Valve including the Portal Gun and a ton of Team Fortress 2 addons. For this game being a Tower Defense style, it sure is time consuming. You can also play online and compete with friends with your scores on the waves you will battle. Music helps keep the enjoyment going while you fight waves and having a narrartor at the beginning helping you out adds more luck to your side. Dungeon Defenders is a type of game that rewards you for playing the game. Leveling up allows you to unlock more weapons, armor etc which allows you to continue on advancing forward for more play time. Playing the game for the first 30 minutes will not get you far but a good hour plus will make you become a master at this game. Now on to the gripes. Dungeon Defenders is a great game, no doubt about it, however some minor stuff will prevent this game from receiving a perfect score. For instance, the graphics style reminded me of Borderlands which seems to be used way too much in other games lately. Also, there is a bug in which case that you alt tab enough, the game will crash and you will have to start your mission over or lose the multiplayer match. Bug wise, it can be fixed with a patch but I did find it quite annoying. Trendy Entertainment (A indie developer) has certainly looked up to the sky and made a great game that has hours of replay value, the more you play the game the more you unlock and thus the more fun you will have.. Aside from a couple of minor issues with an interesting story, this game is a must buy for anyone looking to kill time or to have fun. 9.5/10 |
