XCM F-1 Converter Review Posted by Matthew Anderson on Nov 3, 2011 00:22 (198 days ago) |
As a multi-platform gamer along with an avid sim-racer, I hate having to have two different wheels for my Xbox 360 and PC racing needs. While there are (expensive) options out there for multi-platform wheels, I have always wanted a solution that would allow me to keep my current Logitech wheel and use it on my Xbox 360. Due to the folks at XCM who have created the F-1 Converter, there is! The converter allows you to use the Logitech wheel (G25/G27/DFGT) on your Xbox 360 with a simple converter which retails for $80.00. Let's get into the review.
Of course the obvious pro is the ability to use your Logitech wheel on the Xbox 360! If you are a muli-platform gamer then you don't want to have two different wheels for your PS3/PC and Xbox 360. You now can just have your one wheel for all platforms. While this doesn't relate to my personal use of my gaming experience using the converter, there are built-in combo attack functions along with the ability to use enable rapid fire/turbo on wired Xbox 360 controllers. It is also a good step-up from a regular Xbox 360 controller, even for the immersion fact of using a wheel.
The first real con about the XCM F1 Converter is the price point. You are looking at around $100 (give or take) for the converter and a wired Xbox 360 controller – if you don't have one – which is a tad on the high side. If you have an extra wired controller than the price point might not be an issue for you, but for those that don't have one laying around their household, it adds to the price. The second con is the lack of “real” force feedback when using with the wheel. Yes, there is force feedback being produced through the Logitech wheel, but it isn't the same force feedback that you receive on the PS3 or the PC. It feels like a rumble pack than force feedback, but if you aren't a force feedback nut, then you won't notice. Another problem that I have is the lack of ability to change around the button layout. Since the converter sees the Logitech wheel as an Xbox 360 controller, you are pretty much stuck with what you have (pedals = triggers, wheel = joysticks, etc.) therefore there isn't anyway to add the element of a clutch pedal or the use of an H-Shifter as seen on the Logitech G25/G27.
While the converter doesn't give the results that I would have liked to see with force feedback, it is still a step-up from using a standard controller. If the force feedback was stronger, the price wasn't as steep, and you had the ability to use an H-Shifter/Clutch then this would have been higher rated... but due to these cons I have to give the XCM F-1 Converter a...
