NCIS: The Game Review Posted by Matthew Anderson on Nov 13, 2011 01:12 (188 days ago) |
The game allows you to step into the shoes of your favorite NCIS characters including Tony, McGee, Ziva, Abby, and even Gibbs. It plays throughout four cases/episodes that - much like many other crime based games - the player must go through crime scenes to find evidence, process the evidence, while also getting to "perform" an autopsy on a few occasions, along with having interrogations with suspects (or non-suspects) to solve the case.It plays in a point and click manner style mixed in with mini-games that requires you to rely on quick reflexes on many of the mini-games. Unfortunately, the game becomes very repetitive because of these mini-games. The mini-games vary from case to case, but some include moving furniture around for the agents to take photos and collect evidence that is too high or using quick reflexes to hack into an e-mail account of a victim.
I enjoyed playing the game and enjoyed playing something different from the normal first person shooter, so it really is a game that you can play for fun and just enjoy. The mini-games - while become repetitive - were a pretty cool way to add something more to the game instead of just taking photos and moving onto the next part of a case. There are moments within the cases that it comes off like the real show with quirky remarks from the characters along with some funny moments.
While there are good things about the game, there are a good amount of bad things about the game. While each case features different crimes and evidence, the game feels much the same from case to case when it comes to gathering evidence. It also features very anti-climatic episode conclusions that don't make you feel like you have accomplished anything within the game. The game is also very un-challenging which is a hard thing to master for games like this. You have to make it easy enough for the kids and the non-hardcore gamers, but hard enough that you just aren't flying through the game. They weren't able to get a good enough balance throughout the game which hinders it with difficulty. Also, the controls on the Xbox 360 feel a little wonky in some of the mini-games. It feels like - control wise - the game would best be supported on the PC due to it being point and click style of a game.
If you aren't looking for easy achievements or a hardcore fan of the show, this is a pass. While there are some positives about the game in my opinion, the negatives out way the positives.
Rating: 4.5/10
The game is out now for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and PC!
